About
Professionally indecisive isn’t just Maya Jordan’s Instagram bio. It’s probably the quickest way to describe her.
A British-American singer, songwriter, actor and doctor from Wolverhampton, Maya has never been particularly interested in choosing just one lane. Raised on the sounds of Alicia Keys, Destiny’s Child, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, she writes soulful pop that’s honest, groove-driven and emotionally direct. Her songs sit somewhere between late-night confessions and feel-good moments, inspired as much by real life as they are by great melodies, drawing on experiences from hospital wards, rehearsal rooms and places in between.
Although music was always there through singing, songwriting, piano and performing in jazz, big band and orchestral ensembles, medicine came first professionally. Rather than leave one world behind for another, Maya has found a way to bridge both.
Described by Varsity Magazine as “enchanting”, Maya has performed everywhere from intimate music venues to concert halls and festivals, for audiences of more than 5,000 across the UK and internationally. She is co-host of the Cambridge Funk Jam, a lead vocalist with Symphonica Orchestra, and a graduate of the University of Cambridge's Advanced Popular Performance Scheme. Alongside this, she continues to practise medicine in the NHS. Professionally indecisive, by her own admission.
